'The Sussex was the race of the season' - Marcus Tregoning on a Group 1 cracker
Owen Burrows and Michael O'Callaghan give their views on a big week
Which of Goodwood's Group 1 winners impressed you most last week?
Owen Burrows, trainer Mohaather in the Sussex Stakes. A lot went against him but he was still able to win. I'd agree with Jim [Crowley] that he would have won comfortably with a clearer run. He's beaten the Queen Anne winner and both Guineas winners, so I thought it was a great performance.
Tom Greatrex, jockey For a horse in a Group 1 to have to take back a furlong and a half out and quicken again is very difficult, but Mohaather, who was unlucky at Royal Ascot, managed to do it so nicely in the Sussex Stakes and looks a lovely type going forward.
Charles Hitchings, Sporting Index Stradivarius was impressive in that he didn't get the race run to suit, but his class shone through. But I would go with Mohaather, who didn't have the easiest of runs but showed an astonishing turn of foot and ended up winning a shade cosily against a strong field. He must be a major contender in the top mile races, especially the Breeders' Cup Mile.
