Jaw jutting out, Jon Holmes, the chairman of the Professional Jockeys Association, doubled down on the position his organisation had taken during the frenzied evening before.

"I accept that she felt bullied," Holmes said of Bryony Frost as he stood in the middle of the paddock at Cheltenham in December. "Absolutely, I accept that."

Less than 24 hours earlier, a disciplinary panel had determined that, far from merely feeling bullied, Frost had been subjected to a campaign of bullying and harassment by fellow rider Robbie Dunne and banned him for 18 months, criticising his conduct and character in strong terms.
