After a stellar turf season in 2021 which saw him saddle 108 winners, 20 more than his father, the upcoming season is a hard one to follow for Joseph O'Brien, but the ammunition is there for him to give it a good rattle.
A lot of the talent is among the older horses. Indeed, it is remarkable how many older horses rated 100 or more are resident at Carriganog, and it seems certain O'Brien will have plenty of them trotting the globe in search of good winning opportunities.
One of those could be Cox Plate winner State Of Rest, the highest-rated older horse in Ireland, although winning a European Group 1 would appear now to be more of a priority for this horse.
