To the thousands of essential workers in racing and bloodstock, thank you
Over the past few weeks of lockdown, an army of workers has quietly kept Britain and Ireland moving, tackling the jobs that simply cannot stop.
Among these ranks of doctors, nurses, care workers, delivery drivers, posties, emergency workers, checkout staff, bin collectors and factory workers are the thousands of racing and bloodstock staff who look after the thoroughbreds who bring us so much pleasure.
Never has their importance been more clear than during the current crisis: like other key workers, they are playing an essential role in ensuring the world we long to return to after Covid-19 passes is still there.
Supported by racing's own care workers – the tireless staff of organisations such as the Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Welfare – they are the sport's heroes of the coronavirus pandemic, and online and in our special digital edition we pay tribute to their invaluable contribution.
From all of us, thank you.
