Burgeoning talents are vital to all sports. Whether it be sparkling rookies in the NFL, former academy players in football or British tennis player Emma Raducanu’s rise to the top in the US Open, startling performances from previously unknown stars are a major factor in the brilliance of sport.
It is no different in racing, especially given the turnover of equine champions tends to be quicker than in other sports, and pinpointing the up-and-comers in the handicap chasing sphere can prove crucial to punting success.
Below are six former hurdlers who will try to make a mark over fences this season. Should they achieve a number of handicap victories it may not be as big a shock as Raducanu’s US Open victory, but it will certainly stir up an otherwise well-known group of horses below the top level.
