Shadow Of Light the star of Newmarket's show as Godolphin colt zooms clear of Middle Park rivals
It's easy enough to have your head turned by Classic chatter at this time of year and there has, quite naturally, been some of that around Lake Victoria and Wimbledon Hawkeye after their victories on Newmarket's classy card on Saturday. But for real wow factor, Shadow Of Light stole the show with his four-length defeat of an odds-on shot in the Middle Park.
Looking back at his previous effort, when he was a staying-on second in the Gimcrack, such a firecracker of an effort would have been hard to predict. His York run was a game effort but he was never getting to Cool Hoof Luke, whose connections must now be on really excellent terms with themselves.
Perhaps Shadow Of Light needed the education of that first outing in Group company, having enjoyed a couple of straightforward wins beforehand. Anyway, he looked much more the professional on Saturday, allowing himself to be settled directly behind Whistlejacket but carrying a palpable air of menace from an early stage as he tracked the Morny winner.
