Open your eyes - racing is about much, much more than national pride so let's just savour these exciting prospects

Fierce nationalism may give you a team to support but it can also give you a joylessly one-eyed attitude to sport.

In this month alone an "England forever" approach would have left a native unable to appreciate the way piratical spinner Sajid Khan took apart the Test cricket team in Pakistan, how the fluid Greeks exposed the holes in Lee Carsley's footballers at Wembley and the manner in which the rampant Germans did something similar to the women's team there too.

Fortunately racing is about much, much more than national pride. The vast majority of those who follow the sport are looking for a good horse – and the opportunity to back it – far more than they are interested in where it comes from.
