Kalpana heads Arc market after impressive Champions Day win - but 10-1 Guineas fancy can strengthen Classic claims this week
We have a new Arc favourite following Champions Day, with Kalpana heading a wide-open book for next year’s middle-distance championship following her victory in the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
The race looked competitive beforehand, but it was obvious a fair way out who was going to win and Kalpana duly put the race to bed with a rare degree of ease, seeing off Wingspan by two lengths, despite not enjoying the ground according to her trainer Andrew Balding.
Saturday's result would have been hard to foresee when Kalpana managed only third in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot behind Port Fairy and Lava Stream, both of whose form has nosedived since.
