Galopin Des Champs produces another 180+ performance - and can get better for spring targets

All eyes were on Leopardstown for the Savills Chase on Saturday, which featured a rematch between Galopin Des Champs and Fact To File. Come 2.45pm it was clear Galopin Des Champs is the one they all have to beat in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which he has won for the past two seasons. 

He had the run of the race from the front at Leopardstown, which is nearly always the best place to be if you’re on the best horse, but when Fact To File got to his girths at the top of the home straight, he kicked into another gear.

He was simply too good, although the winning distance was only seven and a half lengths this year compared to 23 in 2023.
