Opportunity knocks for three promising young riders at Cheltenham

Good horses make good riders is a well-worn cliche in racing, but for three young jockeys in particular, getting on a good horse at Cheltenham on Saturday will have done their careers no harm whatsoever.

There was something rather refreshing about Saturday's results from Prestbury Park, with seven different trainers and seven different riders – not all of whom reside in the top echelon of the sport – enjoying their day in the winter sun.

For Chester Williams, Niall Houlihan and Donal McInerney, big-race wins on a big Saturday card at Cheltenham will have undoubtedly lifted their profiles, and on the evidence we witnessed all three have plenty of nous in the saddle.
