At the risk of sounding like a grating echo of 2023, the year began with renewed chaos surrounding affordability checks and their existential threat to the sport. A petition to trigger a debate on the matter raised more than 100,000 signatures, and then racing's cheerleaders urged everybody to pester their local MPs, in a bid to shame them into taking an interest.
