Mobile sports betting in New York a record-breaking hit since January launch
Mobile sports betting has hit the ground running in the state of New York, with this month's Super Bowl week being one of the most lucrative since it was launched at the start of the year.
It has been an instant success, certainly from the perspective of the state's finances, while the $1.6 billion (£1.17bn/€1.4bn) bet by New Yorkers in January was a record monthly figure for the United States, beating the previous best of $1.3bn set by New Jersey in October.
Figures released on Friday by the New York State Gaming Commission do not detail how much was wagered specifically on the Super Bowl on February 13 but during that week $472.1 million (approx £346.3m/€415.5m) was bet in the state, the second highest week so far.
