John Gosden is in ridiculously good form. There are some serious matters to be discussed but there are also laughs, smiles and wisecracks aplenty. Much of the reason why is the young man sat at his desk in a corner of the office.
Thady Gosden is the future of Clarehaven Stables. He is also now formally part of its present. Since late March the 26-year-old has had his name on the licence alongside his father, Britain's champion Flat trainer. Their professional bond, born of blood and now recognised by Weatherbys, has already reaped spectacular rewards.
In reality, that has been the case for some time. Gosden junior has long been a significant cog in this wheel and in January was sent to Riyadh, where he oversaw the final preparations of Mishriff for what proved to be a winning tilt at the Saudi Cup.
