Mick Fitzgerald: 'I'd love to make a difference to somebody else's life'
You spoke out recently about issues with the fixture list – what would you like to see happen in the coming years?
I'd like there to be some unity between all the parties involved so we can finally have people wanting what is best for the sport, not to increase their own profits or standing in the industry. I want what's best for racing and to make it healthy. Look at what Barry Hearn's done for darts and snooker. People who are working in the industry can see when things aren't working, so how can the people who are making the decisions not think for the greater good?
Who was the toughest rider you rode against?
Richard Dunwoody. We all wanted to be him. Even if you ask AP McCoy, he'd say him. He and I fell out and I'm still sad about it, to be honest.
Who do you think is the best up-and-coming rider around at the moment?
The Bowen lads are pretty good. Sean is making a great name for himself pushing Brian Hughes. He has a great attitude and doesn't take himself too seriously. James isn't as light, which makes it harder, but he's equally as good.
