Malton trainer Mark Weatherer has been in the wars – to put it mildly – and has the battle scars to show for it.

"I died three times with heart failure around 15 years ago and they brought me back every time," he says matter-of-factly. "I've just had a defibrillator put in as all the stress has brought my heart problems back to a head."

Being shown the square box protruding from his upper chest upon arriving at Norton Grange Stables is quite an introduction, but nothing has been anywhere near normal at this yard.
