'I rode six winners at Royal Ascot - but I'm still ruing the one that got away'
Stuart Riley talks to the red-hot jockey following his sensational Royal Ascot
It is the Monday after Royal Ascot and Jim Crowley has his first day off since racing returned. He has just walked off the West Sussex golf course, having rather surprisingly played only eight holes by himself. You'd think someone would be willing to play with the man who just doubled his career tally at the royal meeting with a sensational six winners last week.
"They were fully booked but they squeezed me on, I just had a hack round for a bit of practice," he says of his morning over a bacon and egg sandwich. "I didn't want to play any longer because two of the kids aren't back to school yet, so I'm going for a spin round on the ponies with them."
At some point on the ride each of those six finishes will no doubt be re-enacted by his children, but first their father is going to relive that truly electric week.
