Warren Greatrex talks to Catherine Macrae about his new summer venture and hopes for the winter
Racing yards are built on routine but there are times when breaking the mould is exactly what is needed.
For Warren Greatrex, the time for change came this summer, when the 49-year-old trainer became the latest Lambourn resident to turn his hand to the Flat with a select squad of 13 juveniles.
While he has sent out the occasional Flat runner before, this summer's enterprise was a concentrated effort to expand more meaningfully into dual-purpose training and the results have been encouraging. Four of his runners are already off the mark with several more still to make their debuts, but it is the rejuvenating effect on the yard which may have proved the biggest boon of the fledgling project.
