Mothers want what's best for their children and, if you're lucky, yours will always be on hand with sound advice based on experience and goodwill. The trouble is, good advice isn't always what a child wants to hear, as Kevin Philippart de Foy found when he was pondering his career path.
His mum, Brigitte Jacques, had been a jockey for 30 years in Belgium, experiencing all the associated catastrophes and pitfalls along the way, so when her little boy announced that he wanted to follow in her footsteps, she was anything but enthused.
