In The Godfather, Michael Corleone avenges an attempt on the life of his father, the mafia boss Vito, by slaying the man who commissioned the hit. Michael justifies himself with a line that has entered cinematic lore. "It's not personal," he says. "It's strictly business."

For Frankie Dettori at Longchamp on Sunday afternoon, it will be the other way round. The jockey in the business of winning big races has eyes on a seventh Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but this time it's personal. Very personal.

Should Enable reprise her Arc triumphs of 2017 and 2018, she will become the first horse to win the great race three times. How Dettori yearns for it.
