Key to punting is to find trainers and jockeys on the way up - and here they are

Our data analyst Ian Birbeck has crunched the numbers over the last ten seasons

There was a certain amount of predictability to the trainers’ and jockeys’ championships in Britain and Ireland last season, with Paul Nicholls and Willie Mullins both in double figures in winning their titles and Brian Hughes joining Paul Townend as a multiple champion jockey.

For that reason, you’d do well making money out of the likes of Nicholls, Mullins, Hughes and Townend – and indeed their closest competitors – because their talents are so well known to the betting public that their runners are more likely to be overbet than underbet.

The key is to identify trainers and jockeys on their way up and, analysing ten seasons of data, we have found five trainers and five jockeys who had career-best campaigns last season and, crucially, whose achievements are yet to be fully recognised in the betting market.
