Frankel's equal? Why the handicappers have got it wrong over Flightline
That Flightline would be named the world's best racehorse of 2022 had been in little doubt ever since his astonishing demolition of a quality field in the TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar in early September – a performance that saw him finally outrank Baaeed.
That he was the best horse in the world last year is not in question, but is he deserving of a rating that matches Frankel's benchmark 140 from 2012?
Comparing dirt form against turf ten years apart is clearly problematic and this is as much about opinion as conventional handicapping, but for our money the answer is a firm 'no'.
