Former jockey George Baker picks the bones out of a vintage Coral-Eclipse
The Eclipse may have had a small field, but it was a very competitive Group 1 and had the potential to be a messy race because the round track at Sandown is an extreme test of a horse and of tactical speed.
I found when I was riding there that if they don't go a great gallop and horses race on top of each other, it's unusual to get any room because horses don't roll off the rail when they get tired. Gaps don't appear and the best horse doesn't always win.
Vadeni broke well and in the middle of the pack you can see Christophe Soumillon weighing up where his dangers were and who he wanted to be following.
