In the Jet Set Stakes, a trip to Wincanton from Lambourn for two rides might not seem much, but what Dave Crosse does before, during and after certainly fills the day – and he wouldn't want it any other way.

Crosse, 35, is perhaps the archetypal journeyman jump jockey, a term he does not mind – and why should he when this time next year the rider hopes to have his mortgage paid off?

The bulk of that repayment will come from money not earned via rides, but from the other businesses he has established, which will help him clear more than £2,000 this week.
