Michael Dugher has been appointed as chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council

Former Labour MP and shadow culture spokesman Michael Dugher is to become the first chief executive of the new gambling trade body, the Betting and Gaming Council.

Outgoing Labour deputy leader Tom Watson was among those to endorse news of the appointment of his former parliamentary colleague, although the news did not go down so well among some critics of the sector.

Dugher will join the BGC in the spring of 2020 from his current role as chief executive of UK Music, the leading body for the British music industry.
