Don't judge My Drogo on mishap, we saw enough to know he's really exciting

The best-laid plans don't always go as expected – My Drogo's fall on Friday followed by Bob Olinger being a non-runner and Cape Gentleman disappointing on Saturday, underlining that perfectly – but we still learned plenty about some of the leading novice chase prospects.

When assessing performances, finishing positions and margins obviously play a big part, but we're not limited to them (Shan Blue's performance in the Charlie Hall last month being a good example). In the case of the match between My Drogo and Gin On Lime on Friday, it's best to judge the race up until the incidents at two out, and make our assessments there.

My Drogo, one of last season's leading novice hurdlers (RPR 156) but every inch a chaser physically, jumped a little ponderously early on but soon warmed to his task and looked set to score comfortably, having taken a narrow lead, when coming to grief.
