Entsar off to Australia as broodmare after Listed win

On a dismal wet evening on the Knavesmire the four-year-old Entsar ended her career on a bright note with a game success in the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Lyric Stakes.

Ridden by Paul Hanagan, who has done well for trainer William Haggas this season, she was brought towards the stands' side in the straight, and with cheekpieces on for the first time and appreciating the rain-softened ground, she ran on gamely to beat the consistent Ajman Princess by a length and a quarter, with Playful Sound the same distance back in third.

A daughter of Fastnet Rock, Entsar was winning for the third time in a nine-race career which has now come to its conclusion.

Alison Begley, representing owners Al Shaqab, said: "She will now go to Australia to be a broodmare. She had been Listed-placed but winning a Listed race is a great end to her career."

Hanagan said: "The cheekpieces probably helped her but the main thing was the ground, she fairly skipped through it and she was very game. I rode her last time at Newcastle and the Tapeta there seemed too quick for her. It was pretty soft out there."

Favourable impression

Earlier on the newcomer Wells Farrh Go created a very favourable impression when coming from last to first to win the 7f novice event under David Allan having been backed into 16-1 from 33-1.

He is trained by Tim Easterby, who said: "He had been working well at home and we expected a good run from him."
