Enda Bolger hoping to make it La Touche win number 15 in Ireland's longest race
Enda Bolger’s name is synonymous with the Mongey Communications La Touche Cup (4.50), Ireland’s longest race and which the trainer has won 14 times, most recently with Auvergnat a year ago.
Bolger is represented this time in the 4m2f cross-country chase by Josies Orders, who was beaten a neck in the contest 12 months ago, two days before providing Nina Carberry with the final win of her career.
Josies Orders, who has won four times on Cheltenham’s cross-country course, is a three-time winner at Punchestown and is the mount of Mark Walsh, who won the race for Bolger on Quantitativeeasing two years ago.
Bolger said: "Josies Order was no match for Tiger Roll at Cheltenham last month but he came out of the race well.
"We’ve freshened him up and he’s in good form. He’s got plenty of weight [12st 7lb] but his experience over the course will be a big help and we’re looking forward to a big run."
Josies Orders' nine rivals include the Jim Dreaper-trained Sizing Coal, who was second in the Joseph O'Reilly Hunters Chase at the Fairyhouse Easter festival. The 11-year-old's vastly experienced rider Jamie Codd will be seeking a first win in this marathon event.
Tears will give rivals fears
Black Tears drops in grade for the Close Brothers Mares Novice Hurdle (7.15) after competing at a higher level on her last two starts, and Gordon Elliott is expecting a big performance from the five-year-old.
The trainer said of Davy Russell's mount: "Black Tears ran very well at Cheltenham when fourth in the Grade 2 mares' novice, and also performed creditably in the Grade 1 mares' race at Fairyhouse last time.
"She's dropping back half a mile in trip and also in class, and hasn't had a long season as she started off only in January. She's in good form and we're looking forward to a good run."
Fury on the right road
Elliott is also represented by recent Fairyhouse winner Fury Road in a highly competitive looking five-runner bumper (7.45), in which the Gigginstown House Stud-owned five-year-old is one of four winners in the line-up.
He won by seven lengths under Lisa O'Neill, who keeps the ride, at Fairyhouse and Elliott said: "Fury Road was a bit keen on his debut at Leopardstown but he won very well last time.
"He's a nice horse and, while this is a much stronger race, he's in good form and should go well."
