Enable scoops ROA Horse of the Year award for third consecutive year
Khalid Abdullah's wondermare Enable landed her third consecutive Horse of the Year award at the ROA Horseracing Awards on Thursday evening.
Enable, who took her glittering career record for trainer John Gosden to 13 wins from just 15 starts this year, recorded Group 1 successes in the Coral-Eclipse, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks before finishing a gallant second to Waldgeist in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
However, that defeat didn't stop her sweeping the awards and as well as being voted the Horse of the Year, Enable also took the Outstanding Filly and Mare and Outstanding Middle Distance horse titles.
Enable's owner Abdullah was only narrowly denied in the Owner of the Year category, finishing six votes shy of eventual winner Andrew Gemmell, who enjoyed a phenomenal year with the performances of staying hurdler Paisley Park.
The dual Grade 1-winner, who is unbeaten in his last six starts, also picked up the Outstanding Hurdler award.
Altior, owned by former ROA board member Patricia Pugh, picked up the Outstanding Chaser award for a second time, denying Grand National winner Tiger Roll.
On the Flat, Battaash took the Outstanding Sprinter prize, Too Darn Hot, who notched Group 1 scores at Deauville and Goodwood, topped the voting for the Outstanding Miler, while Stradivarius scooped the Outstanding Stayer prize.
The ROA Horseracing awards are voted for every year by 7,900 members, with the winners announced at a ceremony held in London.
