The Racing Post's Edward Whitaker has been nominated for the prestigious photographer of the year and picture of the year prizes, the winners of which will be revealed at the Horserace Writers and Photographers Association Derby Awards on Monday, December 3.

Whitaker has won the photographer of the year title a record-breaking seven times and faces opposition from Louise Pollard, Alan Crowhurst and Fran Altoft. Whitaker claimed the prize in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2012, 2014 and 2016.

Seven-time winner Nick Luck has been nominated for broadcaster of the year along with Racing UK colleague Lydia Hislop and ITV Racing pair Ed Chamberlin and Jason Weaver.

For the second year running Racing Post feature writer Peter Thomas has been nominated for the racing writer of the year prize. The Racing Post's Alastair Down is also in the running for the award he has won four times in the past, as is the Post's former bloodstock editor Chris McGrath, who won it for the third time last year. The four-man list is completed by Donn McClean.

Racing Post industry editor Bill Barber and Racing Post colleague David Carr are in the running for the reporter of the year award. The shortlist is completed by Mark Souster of The Times and the Guardian's Chris Cook, who won in 2012 and 2014.
