Dundalk to Dubai - sprint ace A Case Of You targeting Meydan riches
Ado McGuinness is aiming Group 1-winning sprinter A Case Of You at valuable contests in Dubai next month after last season’s Prix de l'Abbaye winner made a successful reappearance at Dundalk on Friday night.
The four-year-old will run on Super Saturday at Meydan on March 5 before returning to the track on Dubai World Cup night on March 26.
Friday’s reappearance amounted to not much more than a piece of work after Logo Hunter, the only conceivable threat to A Case Of You, was ruled out on vet’s advice. However, McGuinness said A Case Of You badly needed the workout and the trainer is expecting lots of improvement.
Speaking from Dubai, he said: "There's always a bit of pressure when you run a horse as good as him but it's nice pressure. He was very good at Dundalk. Current Option was much fitter than him but A Case Of You made him look ordinary.
"He'll come out to Dubai in two weeks' time and we'll aim him at Super Saturday at Meydan on March 5. Then we'll keep him there for Dubai World Cup night and, fingers crossed, we'll get him home and have another big year with him."
He added: "I think there's another Group 1 in him this season, maybe two. I was worried over the winter as he put on over 50kg, he got very fat and we had to start riding him out again. That's why we brought him back early. He was a little short of work at Dundalk but he was impressive and hopefully the race will bring him on.
"For a three-year-old to do what he did last year was very impressive. We think he's only going to be better and we're looking forward to this season.
"There isn’t a great programme in Ireland for these sprinters. We’re not a country noted for having a load of top-notch sprinters so we have to travel. I’m lucky A Case Of You likes travelling and it doesn’t take anything out of him. That’s the beauty about this guy. He also goes on any ground."
