'Don't write him off yet' - unlucky losers on day three at Goodwood
The third day of Glorious Goodwood featured plenty of classy performances, including from Nashwa in the Qatar Nassau Stakes, but there was also a fair share of hard-luck stories. Here are a few of those who looked unlucky on Thursday...
Vee Sight
1.50 Goodwood
He didn't look to enjoy the Goodwood experience at any stage, soon pushed along at the back of the field but, despite hanging markedly right in the last quarter mile, he stuck to his task really well to snatch what had looked an unlikely placing for much of the way. He'll be suited by a more galloping course on easier ground and should have no problems with 1m4f. Don't write him off yet.

Jack Darcy
3.00 Goodwood
On a day bereft of conventional "hard-luck stories", it's worth highlighting Jack Darcy, who ran well in the face of a stiff task – especially for one so short on experience – in the Gordon Stakes. He'd worked his way into a prominent position when carried right by the winner at a crucial stage, the interference in no way affecting the placings, but it did cost him a bit of ground and momentum. He could make amends in Listed or minor Group company.

X J Rascal
4.10 Goodwood
This two-year-old deserves a good deal of credit on his nursery debut as he forfeited considerably more ground at the start than he was beaten in a race that was a bit of a triumph for the handicapper. It's to be hoped his slow-starting tendency can be ironed out. In the same race Surely Not's effort can be marked up given he failed to drop the bridle for much of the way, in the circumstances doing really well to sustain his effort so well on his first run in this type of event. Both are open to improvement as they mature.
