Diversity in racing key to safeguarding the sport we all hold dear

Being cynical is always easy, and when a report of this sort is published the battle lines are often drawn between those who think it is unnecessary pandering to the PC brigade, and those who see the pledges within it as well-meaning words that will ultimately remain unfulfilled.

But why not join the third camp, that believes it can be done? It requires hard work of course, but is the only real option to safeguard the sport we all hold dear.

As Nick Rust highlighted this week, the real challenge to the sport is its relevance to the wider world, and it would be impossible to walk around a racecourse today and suggest the participants are an accurate reflection of modern British society.
