Dartmouth set to tackle big two in Irish St Leger

All the build-up around the Irish St Leger has focused on the rematch between Order Of St George and Big Orange, but a number of notable contenders on Tuesday stood their ground at the forfeit stage for Sunday's Group 1 highlight at the Curragh.

Most eyecatching of all is perhaps the Queen's Dartmouth, who looked the winner for much of Lonsdale Cup at the Ebor meeting, only for Montaly to get the verdict in a photo.

Last year's winner Wicklow Brave is also still engaged, as are Ebor runner-up Flymetothestars and Godolphin's Endless Time.

Aidan O'Brien has a typically strong hand in the Group 1 Molyglare Stud Stakes, with September, Magical, Happily and Ballet Shoes all remaining at the forfeit stage. The main competition to the Ballydoyle squad could come from the Jessica Harrington-trained Alpha Centauri.

Winter's options remain open on the Saturday after she was left in both the Coolmore-backed Matron and the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes.

She could face stablemates Roly Poly and Rhododendron if it is decided to keep her to her own sex in the Matron, as well as Duke of Cambridge winner Qemah.

There is a strong chance of a formidable British challenge too, with Persuasive, Sea Of Grace and Wuheida all remaining at the forfeit stage.

If O'Brien decides to run Winter in the Irish Champion it could mean a clash with Juddmonte International second and stablemate Churchill. Eminent, Cliffs Of Moher and Poet's Word are among the other big names remaining in the €1.25 million contest.

Eighteen remain in Sunday's National Stakes, with Beckford and Gustav Klimt the standouts of the field. Brother Bear was impressive at Royal Ascot, before disappointing at the Curragh behind Actress and Theobald in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes and could step up to Group 1 company.
