Coronet records another Group 1 win for Gosden and Dettori in Prix Jean Romanet
Her first Group 1 victory seemed destined to never come but now that Coronet has finally acquired the habit she seems reluctant to return to the role of bridesmaid, comfortably adding the Darley Prix Jean Romanet to last month's Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud score.
Ten attempts prior to that maiden top-level success had yielded four seconds and a trio of third-placed efforts, but there never seemed much chance of another unwanted runners-up prize once Frankie Dettori took control at the top of the straight, though With You was eating up the ground late on.
Gosden, who also won the race with Izzi Top in 2012, said: "She's won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and now here, and I think her last race will probably be on Champions Day at Ascot.
"We were losing count of how many times she was second in a Group 1, so it’s great she’s come and won. She had to battle to win the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and a mile and a quarter is probably not her best trip here. It’s lovely to get two Group 1s into her."
Coronet was shortened to a general 8-1 shot (from 14) for the Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes.
With You finished with a similar rattle to the one that almost saw her run down Laurens over a mile here last month and Freddy Head must now decide on whether this is her optimum trip, or to try a mile and a half in the Prix Vermeille next month.
Head said: "With You ran very well. She always has a moment when she is a little at sea before really finishing well. She is always the one that finishes the best although often after the bird has flown.
"We'll see about what comes next, there's the Opera or the Vermeille."
The revelation that is Red Tea continued her upward curve when running on from well back to claim third for brothers Joseph and Donnacha O'Brien, turning even more of a profit in both experiences and bank balance for the Capel Street Syndicate following her purchase for just 42,000gns.
"It was a fantastic run and now she's Group 1-placed," said O'Brien. "Donnacha felt that better ground would have suited her. We don't have any immediate plans but obviously we want to try to win a Group 1. She has some entries and she might travel at some stage in the season."
Coronet's success provided Dettori with his 13th Group 1 success in the last 78 days in what has been a golden period for the Italian pilot.
