Kirsten Rausing's Alborada Trust has made a number of sizeable donations in view of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, including a grant of £200,000 to the Racing Foundation.

Jeremy Richardson, director of the high-profile owner's private charitable trust, announced the donations on Friday.

He said: "An immediate grant of £200,000 was made to the Racing Foundation, who are assisting all racing charities, £25,000 was sent to the Suffolk County Community Coronavirus Fund and £20,000 each to the Newmarket Racing Centre and the Newmarket Day Centre.

"After urgent consultations with Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge, arrangements have now been made for 600 ICU staff and those who support them to receive shopping vouchers of £200 each; the staff themselves nominating recipients. A further grant of £50,000 has been provided as a Hardship Fund for other staff."

Richardson added: "An additional grant of £200,000 has been made to enable the hospital to provide, as a matter of urgency, wellbeing rooms for ICU staff so that they can find moments of peace and quiet near to their units without having to de-robe. This work is being carried out now."

Rausing, the granddaughter of Tetra Pak founder Ruben Rausing, owns Lanwades Stud in Newmarket. The operation stands the stallions Study Of Man, Sir Percy, Sea The Moon and Bobby's Kitten.

According to its website, the Alborada Trust aims to provide funding for medical and veterinary causes, research, education, the welfare of animals and relief to disaster areas worldwide.

The charity was founded in 2001 and is named in honour of Rausing's homebred dual Champion Stakes heroine Alborada, rated the world champion three-year-old filly of 1998.
