HRI boss welcomes June 8 resumption despite renewed disquiet among top trainers

Horse Racing Ireland chief executive Brian Kavanagh has welcomed the government’s announcement that racing will return on June 8, rather than June 29, despite renewed disquiet among top-tier trainers that an earlier resumption could not be negotiated.

John Oxx and Joseph O’Brien were on Friday measured in their reaction to the news that racing was brought forward from phase three to phase two in the government’s roadmap for re-opening businesses and other activities.

Other leading trainers, who did not want to be quoted, were less than pleased over the outcome.
