Conflated the major scorer but for the masses Honeysuckle is a sweet saviour
Just about every Tote Ten To Follow stable managed to pick up some points this weekend, with 78.5 per cent of teams, including the new game leader Caltonian9, collecting 52.5 for Honeysuckle’s 14th straight racecourse success.
The mare’s victory in the Irish Champion Hurdle, a Ten To Follow bonus race, meant she gained an additional 25 points for her stables and was propelled into the top four Ten To Follow horses this season.
However, although Honeysuckle was the most popular scorer of the weekend she was not the biggest points scorer. That title went to Conflated, surprise winner of the Irish Gold Cup, another Ten To Follow bonus race.
He returned Tote win and place dividends of £18.20 and £3.60 which, along with 25 bonus points, meant he collected 71.80 points, moving him into second place on the leaderboard.
However, just like others in the top six in the table – Cloudy Glen (0.3 per cent), Tornado Flyer (0.2 per cent), Commander Of Fleet and Tommy’s Oscar (both 0.1) – Conflated represents a tiny proportion of players, 0.1 per cent to be exact.
It is no surprise the other leading points scorers came at the Dublin Racing Festival. Blue Lord survived a stewards’ inquiry in the Irish Arkle to maintain his unbeaten record over fences and move into the top 15 horses after picking up 29.7 points.
Vauban got the better of the highly rated Fil Dor in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle to add 28.9 points to his record and Sir Gerhard picked up 27.5 points.
That was the same haul garnered by Chacun Pour Soi, his first in the game this season in the Dublin Chase and significant as he is a key component of many teams, with 28.7 per cent including him.
Galopin Des Champs dominated the Ladbrokes Novice Chase to claim 27.3 points for 19.6 per cent of stables.
Dolos was the best of the scorers in Britain with 23.8 points for his Sandown success, while Ahoy Senor (21.73) proved his class in the Towton at Wetherby and Goshen (16.8) got back to winning ways in the Contenders Hurdle.
