Confirmed runners and riders for Saturday's Irish Derby at the Curragh
A strong British challenge is set to take on the might of Aidan O'Brien in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (3.45), with the Ballydoyle trainer's five-strong team led by 2-1 favourite High Definition.
Mojo Star (5-1) and Hurricane Lane (11-2), second and third behind Adayar in the Cazoo Derby, will be joined in heading over to Ireland by Goodwood's Cocked Hat winner Lone Eagle.
Jockey Rossa Ryan has been booked to ride Mojo Star, having been on the sidelines with a broken collarbone and appendicitis since May 26.
The only British-trained winner this century was Jack Hobbs in 2015 and during that time, O'Brien has gained all but one of his record 14 victories in the Curragh Classic.
Irish Derby racecard and betting
O'Brien has five contenders this time headed by High Definition, who was third in the Dante last time. He is also responsible for Arturo Toscanini, Matchless, Van Gogh and Wordsworth.
Mac Swiney (8-1), winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas and fourth at Epsom, will aim to give trainer Jim Bolger his third Classic victory of the season.
The field is completed by the Donnacha O'Brien-trained Fernando Vichi and Earlswood, a first runner in Irish Derby for trainer Johnny Murtagh, who won the race four times as a jockey.
The ground at the Curragh was described as good, good to firm in places on Thursday morning.
