Circus Maximus and Kameko were among nine top-class runners left in the Prix Jacques le Marois after the forfeit stage on Wednesday.

The pair could renew their rivalry at Deauville on Sunday after finishing second and fourth behind Mohaather in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

While £275,000 was the total purse for the Sussex, the runners in the Marois will be competing for their share of €600,000.

Among them will be Alpine Star, who like Circus Maximus is owned by the Niarchos family. She was only narrowly beaten by Fancy Blue in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly last month.

Palace Pier, a smooth winner of the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, is also set to take his chance, while last year's winner Romanised also stood his ground.

There are four French-trained runners in the field, headed by Prix d'Ispahan hero Persian King for Andre Fabre.

Pascal Bary, who last won this race in 2003 with Six Perfections, is represented by Pretreville, while Henri-Alex Pantall has two runners, Restiany and The Summit.

Mohaather wasn't the only horse from the Sussex to be scratched, with Aidan O'Brien taking out five, including Wichita and Vatican City, who both ran at Goodwood.

Prix Maurice de Gheest fourth Earthlight will not be turning out again for Godolphin, and the same applies to Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Victor Ludorum. He appears set to clash again with Mishriff, who beat him in the Prix du Jockey Club last time, in Saturday's Prix Guillaume d'Ornano.
