A minor incident at the start led to a two-day ban for Cieren Fallon on day two of a Glorious Goodwood that has been otherwise light on disciplinary action.

Fallon was annoyed by his fellow rider Marco Ghiani in the moments before the Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes and expressed his feelings in words that are undoubtedly common currency between jockeys, but on this occasion were overheard by two members of the public and a veterinary officer.

Fallon's mount Happy Craf played up at the start and the jockey blamed Ghiani, who, in Fallon's view, should have pulled up Soft Whisper on arrival at the start rather than passing Happy Craf at speed.

"I said, 'What the f*** did you do that for?'" reported Fallon. Ghiani said the incident was "nothing to be worried about".

But the matter was nonetheless reported to the stewards, who held an inquiry at which they interviewed Fallon, Ghiani and the vet.

Having heard their evidence, they found Fallon guilty of improper conduct and suspended him for two days (August 10-11).

Both Soft Whisper (13-2) and Happy Craf (125-1) finished unplaced.

Fallon, a dual former champion apprentice, has ridden 33 winners in 2022, notably landing the Winter Derby on Alenquer for William Haggas at Lingfield in February and the Cecil Frail Stakes on Sense Of Duty for the same trainer at Haydock in May.
