Chelmsford City plans to get new turf track up and running by next summer

Chelmsford City racecourse plans to have its new turf track ready for racing by summer 2022 when it hopes to stage mixed cards in conjunction with the existing all-weather track.

The Essex circuit will become the first floodlit grass racecourse in Britain next year when it could stage a handful of mixed fixtures in the second half of the season.

Inside the Polytrack circuit, which was reopened in 2015, the turf track is a mile round and will stage races initially over five furlongs and upwards of a mile due to its layout.
