Charlie Deutsch received a Christmas bonus when he was successful on Thursday in his appeal against the seven-day ban imposed by the Leicester stewards on December 5.

He will now be free to take important rides for his boss Venetia Williams at Ascot on Saturday week and through the busy Christmas period, when he is likely to have good opportunities at both Kempton and Chepstow.

Deutsch was found guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing aboard Arqalina in a novices' handicap chase. The stewards adjudged the Williams-trained mare could have finished third but eventually failed by a short head.
