Ebor meeting winners Breege and Alfa Kellenic will be among the stars on show at the Malton open day on Sunday.

The public can see round their stables in the morning, as part of an event sponsored by Arena Racing Company, then visit the scene of their York triumphs last month.

The open day, part of National Racehorse Week, is organised by Racing Welfare, which has formed a partnership with York racecourse to offer a combined ticket to the track's family meeting on Sunday afternoon.

Breege was a 33-1 winner of the City of York Stakes on the Knavesmire for John and Sean Quinn, who will be opening their yard as a partnership for the first time having teamed up this year.

Craig Lidster, who sent out his first winner scarcely two years ago, is a new addition to the itinerary and is looking forward to welcoming the public to his Easingwold stable and showing off York fillies' handicap winner Alfa Kellenic.

"It's a great thing to do, to open up our doors to the public, to let them see what the working life in racing is all about and get involved," said the trainer, who is eyeing Ayr for his stable star.

"Alfa Kellenic is in good fettle and we'd go for the Ayr Gold Cup if she got in off bottom weight but otherwise I probably wouldn't entertain Silver or Bronze and we might look at the Listed Arran Stakes there."

Visitors to the yard will also see We’ve Got This, the two-year-old who is part of The Graham Lee Racing Club run by The Good Racing Co to raise funds in support of Lee and his family.

Other trainers opening their yards between 8.45am and midday are Ruth Carr, Mick and David Easterby, Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey, Roger Fell and Sean Murray, Suzzanne France, Adrian Keatley, Fionn McSharry, Adrian Nicholls, Ollie Pears and Mike Sowersby.

The event is a key fundraiser for Racing Welfare, a charity which supports the sport's workforce.

Regional community executive Beck Edmunds said: “The Arc Malton open day is a fantastic opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at some fantastic yards and get up close to the action.

"It's suitable for all ages and a day out for the whole family to enjoy while raising funds for a vital charity."

No shuttle buses will be running between venues on Sunday as each yard opening its gates will have designated parking locations, giving more flexibility for visitors.
