Who are some of the big names entered for Chepstow's two-day jumps season opener this weekend?
Chepstow's two-day jumps season opener takes place later this week and here are some of the big names that feature among the entries . . .
Teeshan
3.15pm Friday, 2m3½f Persian War Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2)
The Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old bolted up in an Irish point last October and was equally as impressive when easing to a seven-length success in an Exeter bumper on his rules debut in February.
Johnny de la Hey's son of Westerner was sent off at 16-1 for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival on the back of that success, but he failed to land a blow having raced keenly at the front of affairs.
He is entered in Friday's Persian War Novices' Hurdle and could bid to emulate the same connections' Captain Teague, who won this race 12 months ago on his hurdling debut.
Enrilo
3.50pm Friday, 2m7½f veterans' handicap chase
Although on a losing run stretching back to February 2021, Enrilo was only beaten a length and a half in a 3m4½f handicap chase at Taunton in March and returns from a break on a career-low rating of 132.
He finished a neck second on his chasing debut at this meeting in 2020 and now steps into veterans' company for the first time.
This trip could prove on the sharp side but Enrilo, who produced a Racing Post Rating of 153 when first past the post in the 2021 bet365 Gold Cup, should prove capable off this mark.
Stream Of Stars
5:00pm Friday, 2m handicap hurdle
Sent off the 5-2 favourite for the 2018 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot when trained by John Gosden, absences of 1,197 days and 986 days have limited Stream Of Stars to just seven runs over hurdles but he comes into this seeking a hat-trick following back-to-back wins at Fontwell.
The most recent of those successes came by an impressive nine-length margin and with a hefty rise incoming his connections could view Friday's 2m handicap hurdle – for which Stream Of Stars would carry a 7lb penalty – as a good opportunity to notch another win.
Cuthbert Dibble
2:45pm Saturday, 2m3½f novices' chase
The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Cuthbert Dibble was a dual winner last season, following up a 12-length victory at this track with a hard-fought win in a Pertemps qualifier at Haydock.
The six-year-old was sent off the 11-2 favourite for the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham on the back of that win, and ran creditably to finish a three-and-a-half-length third behind Monmiral.
Although subsequently only midfield in a handicap hurdle at Aintree's Grand National festival, Cuthbert Dibble looks a potentially above-average recruit to chasing.
Crebilly
3:20pm Saturday, 2m3½f handicap hurdle
Jumping errors cost Crebilly in competitive affairs at Cheltenham last season before he got off the mark at the third time of asking over fences with a victory in a three-runner novice at Exeter in February.
The JP McManus-owned seven-year-old found only Shakem Up'Arry too strong in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival subsequently before ending his campaign with a seventh when upped to 3m1f for the first time at Aintree.
Crebilly returns to what looks like a more suitable trip in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow on Saturday, while a hurdles rating of 138 is 5lb below his chase mark.
Editeur Du Gite
4:00pm Saturday, 2m3½f handicap chase
Grade 1-winning chaser Editeur Du Gite ended last season on a sour note, finishing pulled up in the Celebration Chase at Sandown and in handicap company at Kempton.
He had struck at Grade 2 level in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton in December, however, and a return to that level of form would give him obvious claims in Saturday's 2m3½f handicap chase off a mark of 158.
Kitty's Light
4:35pm Saturday, 2m7½f handicap chase
The popular Christian Williams-trained performer is set to make his comeback and begin his road back to Aintree in his quest for Grand National glory.
The eight-year-old, who remarkably completed the Eider Chase, Scottish Grand National and Bet365 Gold Cup treble in 2023, failed to win last season, but ran an admirable race in the world's most famous chase when the first British-trained runner home in fifth. He was beaten ten and a half lengths by I Am Maximus.
He has obvious claims of winning if he runs to that level again, but this is a red-hot running of the race. Welsh Grand National hero Nassalam, Topham Chase winner Arizona Cardinal, Ga Law and Dashel Drasher are all in contention too.
