Windsor joins Newton Abbot in cancelling fixture on Monday with the course waterlogged
Heavy rain has forced Windsor to follow Newton Abbot in cancelling its Monday meeting after the Berkshire track failed a 7.30am inspection.
The going at Windsor was soft, heavy in places when the inspection was called on Sunday and the threat of heavy and persistent rain materialised with the course unraceable on Monday morning.
"The ground is saturated," said clerk of the course Charlie Rees. "We've had 12mm of rain overnight and into this morning on top of 133mm since last Saturday. It's still raining now and there's the potential for more to fall."
Newton Abbot had initially scheduled a 7am inspection on Monday morning, but an early decision was taken to cancel the six-race jumps card on Sunday evening with the ground waterlogged.
Speaking after the decision was made, clerk of the course Jason Loosemore said: "It's not been biblical, but it's been a wet afternoon with 14mm of rain since we walked it at around 2.30pm and it was set to be heavy rain overnight until around 2am.
"It was a no-brainer decision in the end really. It's been a funny old summer with watering then heavy rain spells. Some of the winter tracks might be wanting this rain, but it's very frustrating for us."
There is still plenty of action in Britain and Ireland on Monday with Hamilton, Roscommon, Down Royal in the afternoon and Wolverhampton in the evening.
