Want to see City Of Troy's crucial workout at Southwell? Here's how you can watch Aidan O'Brien superstar in action
Racing fans who want to witness City Of Troy's key workout at Southwell on September 20 are now able to sign up to attend for free.
The brilliant Derby, Eclipse and International Stakes winner is gearing up for his visit to Del Mar on November 2, when he will bid to provide Aidan O'Brien with an elusive first win in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
O'Brien has pinpointed Southwell as a key away day ahead of the son of Justify's first race on dirt, and anyone who wishes to attend is now available to book via the website of the Nottinghamshire track. Tickets must be registered for in advance.
Although the exact timings of the event are to be confirmed, Southwell has said gates will open an hour before the gallop and remain open an hour afterwards with tea, coffee and some confectionaries on offer.
The master Ballydoyle trainer has used Southwell in the past to gallop some of his greats, with multiple Group 1 winner Giant's Causeway making an appearance in 2000. Derby winner and future champion sire Galileo also exercised at Southwell a year later.
Speaking to the media at Ballydoyle last week, O'Brien set out in further detail his meticulous plan for the Southwell gallop later this month.
City Of Troy is set to undergo a strenuous workout designed to replicate the early intensity of the Classic, a race for which he is 3-1 favourite in the ante-post market.
Speedy stablemates, a strong pace and American stalls are all set to be part of the set-up, with O'Brien saying: "He’ll go a mile with probably four or five other horses, and we’ll go a strong, fast pace for a mile and see what will happen.
"He’ll work out of American stalls, so we’ll have it as close as we can. Obviously, we won’t have the surface but that’s not a bad thing because it’s a little bit of a step in between grass and dirt rather than a big jump straight away."
Anyone wishing to attend City Of Troy's gallop can register for tickets here.
