Two Racing Post readers celebrate £500 win for taking part in print survey
Two regular Racing Post readers are each celebrating winning a £500 prize for taking part in our major print survey.
Margaret Bates, from Bedfordshire, and Marc Page, from Durham, were randomly selected from all those respondents who offered their feedback to help improve and shape what appears in each daily edition.
Margaret, who has followed racing since Arkle got her hooked on the sport, says: "I'm shocked but I'm thrilled to bits. When I saw how many times the survey was in the paper I thought that diminishes the odds, so I didn't give it another thought.
"I've read the Racing Post since it followed on from The Sporting Life, so it's been quite a while. I look at the website but I like having the paper, which is probably an age thing.
"I like reading the reports from the meetings and the racecards because you get so much information about all the horses and the breeding. It's not about the betting for me, it's about the horses, the people, the stories and the spectacle."
Marc is more serious about punting and particularly likes to read the advice of deputy Ireland editor David Jennings and Saturday columnist Johnny Dineen.
"It's absolutely brilliant to have won the prize," Marc says. "I subscribe to the paper, having taken advantage of the deals that are on offer.
"The Racing Post is an integral part of racing and I'd feel lost without it. When you get the paper every day, you're more part of the sport. You get titbits and insight and feel more involved.
"I'm a form bettor and I like to go through all the form. I'll then read the results section to see where my money went and why it went that way."
Improvements ahead after valued feedback
The Racing Post Print Survey offered a fascinating and valuable insight into your reading experiences.
Almost 1,000 readers responded, sharing views on what sections of the paper are most valued and areas for potential improvement.
We'll be introducing various changes both big and small in response to your feedback. One of the most notable will be the introduction next month of a new guide to going racing, featuring listings, details of big racedays ahead, local attractions and other information to help plan your racecourse visits.
We also heard from many respondents who participate in racehorse ownership, especially in syndicates. We intend to delve deeper into what they offer, highlighting their important contribution to racing and offering readers considering joining up useful insights into what's available.
The loyalty and passion of Racing Post readers is something we treasure and rest assured we will be developing many other tweaks and improvements in response to the survey findings. Thank you to everyone who participated.
