Trainers' argument branded 'nonsense' as riders back BHA support for apprentices
Jockey Ryan Tate has criticised the response of trainers to the BHA's new rules aimed at ensuring apprentices are not denied their rightful income, arguing those complaining have failed to see the bigger picture.
Tate, who rode out his claim in 2016, stressed he was treated extremely well when attached to Clive Cox, who also received praise from Megan Nicholls when she voiced her support for changes made as a result of many trainers failing to honour their obligation to contribute towards their young riders' expenses.
Under the new model, to be introduced at the start of the turf Flat season after persistent lobbying by the Professional Jockeys Association, expenses must be covered entirely by apprentices but, in return, they will retain a bigger share of their prize-money and riding fees.
