Soft-ground specialists: two horses who will relish conditions at Catterick on Wednesday

The ground is officially soft for Catterick's seven-race Wednesday card and here are three horses expected to thrive in the conditions . . .

Alafdhal

Race: 1.38 Catterick, 5f handicap

The son of Lope De Vega comes into this race in good form having finished second in sprint handicaps at Wolverhampton and Pontefract the last twice.

Phil McEntee's gelding has been nudged up 1lb for his most recent effort, but he remains 7lb lower than when winning on soft ground at Pontefract in April.

The six-year-old has recorded his top three turf Racing Post Ratings on soft or heavy ground, so the forecast conditions look firmly in his favour.

Spotlight comment: Not the force of old but comes here after two recent seconds and will be favoured by rain

Monsieur Kodi

Race: 3.55 Catterick, 7f handicap

Monsieur Kodi has failed to fire in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap and the Ayr Bronze Cup recently, but he takes a huge drop in class today and will appreciate getting back on soft ground.

The five-year-old finished fourth, beaten just a length and three-quarters, on heavy ground at Chester in June and now finds himself on a 6lb lower mark.

His form figures on an officially soft surface read a promising 6013125, while his form figures in handicaps at Class 5 level or below read 0615211.

Spotlight comment: Not discredited when 12th in Ayr Bronze Cup latest; firmly in the picture
