Racing goes ahead at Ffos Las as timing of rain and windy weather works in the course's favour
Racing will go ahead at Ffos Las today after the track passed its 7.30am inspection early.
The course was subject to an inspection due to high volumes of rain forecast, but several factors meant it was deemed raceable early this morning. The going is currently heavy, soft in places.
Speaking at 7.30am, clerk of the course Tracey O'Meara said: "We had 28.6mm of rain, the bulk of which fell before 8.30pm last night, so that gave it chance to get into the ground. It was quite windy last night and it's quite breezy here at the moment as well, so all of those factors contributed to a good outcome."
On conditions today, she added: "There's the chance of an isolated shower around 8am and then it's mainly dry thereafter. We're omitting the last fence in the back straight because we weren't happy with the ground on the landing side of the fence."
The feature event on the seven-race card is the 2m5½f novice handicap chase (3.17), which will see Leader In The Park take on a competitive field including Saladins Son, Not Long Left and Just Over Land.
Another draw is the exciting Rosscahill in the 2m4f novice hurdle (2.42), while Gillespie, a brother to smart staying chaser The Big Breakaway, makes his debut in the concluding bumper (3.50).
The likely testing ground has impacted field sizes, with six of the card's nine non-runners taken out due to the going.
